I'd be interested to know how you get on with this (after you get it
working, obviously ;). I keep thinking about a ups, don't know whether or
not to go for one over a surge strip. You see, if I put my hi-fi on it,
it'll sound much better (less noise on the power supply, 'cos the
electricity is cleaner ;) ....

Would that be ttyS1 by any chance??? Also, I presume that's an rs232 cable
you've got there? At least at one end, it ought to be...

I imagine tty0 is your physical console, is it not? How have you connected
your modem to that?

Connecting your modem to tty0 sounds wrong to me ;)))
