Did you never build the EPROM programmer from the Beebug 
articles then ?
In fact I 'think' Risc-User (RIP) also did one that could handle larger 
ROMs

The nice thing about Windows is that it doesn't just crash.
It displays a dialogue box and lets you click OK first.
