You have two subnets? Why? It's acting as a router anyway - having all
machines on the same subnet would save a lot of hassle, a lot of
configuration and stuff like that. Unless you're running a class B subnet,
which is even stranger....

Having a firewall is not necessary, and probably not what you mean. A strong
rules set will suffice. Also, how come your modem has a fixed IP address?
Also, having a modem on a router is a strange idea at best - but then, from
your diagram, it's not being used (is that correct???). Check what the
default gateway is on c1 - 'netstat -rn' will show the routing table, the
default gateway is labelled 'UG'. You need to set up some intelligence for
it to find the 192.168.0 subnet with a default path going to the internet...

Right, so telnet *isn't* working? This means your router probably isn't
routing, or is doing something daft. If I were you, I'd set it up as one
subnet - you gain simplicity at the cost of nothing... also, what do you
mean 'can't telnet direct'?? How is it possible to telnet indirectly???

You said you did 'make .config'. That's not right. 'make menuconfig'. That.
Exactly that.

I would be surprised if your kernel came with it disabled.

Cheers,

Alex.
