Thanks very much for all your quick responses and for pointing out that an
ethernet setup does not require a dialup configuration tool (doh!).  I am
mostly reassured that signing up will be ok and only a little concerned about
installing and configuring an Ethernet card.  BlueYonder have recommended the
Netgear 100 Base 10 ethernet card (and suggest a price of around £25) which I
presume will fit into a standard PCI slot?
