Hmm. I'm using GNOME, connected via UKLinux, so let's try...

ftp.gnome.org - (canvas.gnome.org) wu-2.6.0
ftp.uklinux.net - (s0.uklinux.net)  wu-2.6.1

Quite obviously incompetent then.

Or, they have better things to spend their time on. I think your
argument is, "there are more secure ftp servers than wu", not "wu
sucks". Slightly more likely to agree about rpc.statd, but then, that's
not really a significant internet service (i.e., not telnet / ftp / http
/ pop3 etc...)

Securing machines, if you're a professional, generally comes down to a
cost thing, not whether or not you ought to. wu-ftp certainly isn't
insecure enough to make me lie awake at night worrying about it..
