If you do 'cat /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq' and see a 1, you can use the
SysRq key to try and coax extra life out of a dying box. You press
Alt-SysRq and then a letter, to do something:

h - help  :) Shows you what your kernel supports
m - dump memory info
t - dump task info
u - attempt to remount filesystems read-only

I would suggest trying to see if one of the tasks has frozen; that might
be a good clue to the problem.

I can't really believe that a choice of a different grub would solve the
problem; at best, it sounds like something is either being masked, or
the Libranet grub setup isn't tickling something the suse setup is. I
don't suppose you have the relevant grub setup files from both, and have
you compared them?
