Re: Lilo and Red Hat 6.1

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments but can anyone give me a few file names to look at
and see if I can sort things out please? I'm sure I have this machine 90% of
the way there but I must have overlooked something and I'm damned if I can
remember exactly what I did on the other one. The problem I have is that
there are so many files in linux with similar cryptic names and I am not yet
familiar with them all. It would be a great help if someone set to and
produced a booklet or web page or something listing all the files in
groups - like 'this group are concerned with networking, file systems,
keyboard operation, whatever....then a list'

I also have a bit of a problem with the video setup. I am using an ATI Rage
II with an old Samsung Syncmaster 3 monitor - both supported in RH6.1 and
working OK but, I can't get it to work in anything less than 1024 x 782 or
whatever (it might even be in 1132 x ???) mode and its ruining my old eyes
trying to see it. According to the monitor specs. it should do 800 x 600 at
56KHz but when I tried uncommenting that line in the ??? file (see..
forgotten the name already!), the picture just broke up as though it was on
the wrong frequency. I can't seem to find XF86Setup or anything similar in
RH6.1 to let me choose the default resolution - any ideas?
