[Sheflug] Distributions of Linux - Dont worry its not that old debate again!!!

I am confused. This should be a simple matter for many of you. I
downloaded Opera 4.04b and the libjpeg rpm needed for it to go. Then
kde wouldn't work because it couldn't find the old libjpeg. Now Im
not going to ask why, but I decided I'd had enough of Netscape. So
since Im using SuSE 6.3 I went to their ftp server to find some
browser and came across instructions for updating to KDE2 for SuSE 7
and SuSE 6.4, but not 6.3. Now Ive had problems installing a fair bit
of software recently - not just Opera. So in short, am I using an old
distribution which just doesn't cut it anymore, explaining why there
aren't any instructions to upgrade to kde2? Im begining to think that
if I want to use any recent software I need to make sure I have all
the latest libs for whichever window manager I choose. - Ive not yet
decided properly.

I know Im not being all that clear what my intentions are, and Im
sorry, but I just want a more stable system - something I can learn
to program Opengl/mesa with and something I can play with. But
gnome-napstr gnapster and knapstr wouldn't install when I tried,
(rpms and tarballs) I finally got kpackage working by downloading it
off ftp.suse.de and started to think that nothing will work for me
unless it comes from there.

In short should I get a new distro or spend time downloading?

Forgive me if this is muddled, I'm tired. I have already asked for
help once today after all.....
