Don't bother with KDE 2.  There's a large number of programmers out
there telling all sorts of stories about how good and how stable KDE 2
is.  I've hardly seen anyone get it to work properly.  Come back in a
month or two.

Don't bother with either just stay with what you've got.  You can use
Gnome, or Windowmaker, XFCE 3.65 or even Enlightenment.  Last one is
now very stable.  I use it on my notebook.
