There's not many ide changes, but I think some people *were* having problems
with interrupts, now I remember. I think it was more to do with sharing,
though, and probably isn't anything to do with your problem. Worth a bash
with the latest version, though, definitely.

Probably not the cable then ;)

Sometimes you can get interrupt problems depending which slot the card is
in, etc. AGP gfx + TV card is often a recipe for interrupt / bus master
problems.. I wouldn't worry about having to fix stuff up though, because it
may still not work having pulled the machine half to bits. Cross that bridge
when you come to it.
A couple of other things you might want to do. Firstly, drop us the output
of hdparm. Esp. interested in io support, unmasqirq, using_dma, but it's
easiest just to chop & slap the whole output. Anything juicy in /proc in the
ide section might be handy. Running a hdparm -Tt would also be quite fun,
and if you're feeling nasty you could get a copy of bonnie from somewhere &
run that. Chances are you'll get a lot more interrupt losts, but it might
cause other things to happen too, you never know. Anything in
/var/log/messages would also be useful, and possibly dmesg...
Cheers,
Alex.
