No.  `/usr/sbin/isdnctrl dial ippp0'  Since it's the global crontab
and you're specifying root as the user, you shouldn't have problems
with permissions.  You should check root's mail and the logs for the
output of the echo command you tried.  (cron jobs which produce output
normally produce mail for the user who runs them.)

Ehm - which cron are you using (Debian defaults to Vixie cron, I think
Linux in general uses that, but just to make sure)?  (Read the manpage
to find out; sorry, I know that's against your religion.)
