Very peculiar - KDE 2.1 beta 1 very rarely gives me any problems and has not 
crashed the X server in weeks. XFree86 4.01, on the other hand, has given me 
a few crashing problems - especially after running VMWare. The text consoles 
should be quite independent of KDE/Gnome and I am not at all sure why you are 
crashing KDE while switching consoles.....
